Where are you based Jacqui?
Orange County, California, USA
When did you first take a bass in
your hands? When I was 11yrs old
What attracted you to playing bass?
I liked deeper sounding instruments, and enjoyed being different and the
norm would have been to want to play guitar.
Did you play any other instrument
before you started playing bass? I
played piano for a little bit and the viola for 3yrs
Can you remember the first song you
ever learned on bass? "When I Come
Around" by Green Day. They were my favourite band at the time and
basically my reason for wanting to play.
What was your very first public
performance? Does my 12th birthday
count? If not, I was in a jazz band for awhile and sometime during my
freshman year in high school we played.
What's your current band?
Civet
What's your main bass?
A black Fender J-Bass
What strings to you like best?
I'm not much of a techie, but right
now I've got the Misfits Jerry Only strings and I'm really happy with
them.
What is your backline bass amp
setup? Ampeg SVT-350H with a 6x10
cab
Fingers, pick or both?
Yes, I use a pick and only use my fingers
if I drop it :)
What type of music do you play?
Rock 'n' Roll!
Who do you listen to when you're not
playing? This could be a really long
answer.....The Clash, Misfit, Backyard Babies, Murder City Devils, X,
Tool, Marilyn Manson, Bloc Party, Social Distortion, Queens of the Stone
Age, NIN, the Distillers, Dropkick Murphys, Billie Holiday, Foo Fighters,
the Gossip....really I could keep going, but these are some of my biggies.
Have you recorded/released any CDs?
Not yet. But Civet did before I
joined.
What was your best gig/venue ever?
Hmmmm....One of the best was at the
Scene Bar in Glendale a few months ago.
What was your worst moment onstage?
There haven't been any major ones yet, (knock on wood) but the other night
I tripped on my case while we were playing and stumbled a little bit, but
I don't think anyone else noticed.
What's your favourite album/CD?
London Calling- The Clash
Do you own any other instruments?
I have two other basses and a
guitar.
Did you ever perform onstage without
your bass? I sang in a Big Band when
I was in high school and I've played guitar in a couple bands as well.
What's your opinion on basses with
more than 4 strings? Five is cool,
any more seems excessive. But I've never really played one so who am I to
say.
What do you feel is the bass-players
function in a band? Definitely to
work with the drummer to keep the rhythm strong, but you've gotta know
when to do a little something fancy to keep it interesting.
What are your ambitions?
A girl's gotta have a few secrets...
